8?/series. Few
authors have the chops of Lawrence Block: winner of multiple awards (some
multiple wins as well), a lifetime of crafting police procedurals, mysteries of
all sorts, with an occasional dip into near-porn when writing under another
name. I know when I open one of his books, I’m in for an entertaining time.
While the books can be read as stand-alones, I think you'll enjoy them more as a delicious way to spend some time in Matthew Scudder's gritty world. Click below for more...
This book is a reminiscence of sorts, with ex-cop Matthew Scudder tracking the people on a dead alcoholic’s Twelve Step list: in AA, number nine is where you ask forgiveness from those you’ve hurt. For two-bit semi-reformed criminal Jack Ellery, that list is explosive. Scudder, sober only a year, struggles with his demons and with a subtle, elusive killer. It’s a 5, and it's become one of the classics in this genre.
