A Harry Hole suspense #12. Set in Oslo, starring brilliant but damaged detective Harry Hole, this book shouldn't be read without delving into prior works in this series. In fact, you should read #1 through #11 before you start this one. You're in for a wild ride following chain-smoking alcoholic Harry as he battles personal demons, the Oslo Police hierarchy, internal betrayals and intrigues, and a disastrous love life involving a myriad of fascinating women. Harry, despite his many obvious problems, is a major babe magnet. Who’s the mastermind? Costa and his silent, lumbering sidekick Luca Rossi, and pathologist-without-peer “Crazy Teresa” Lupo, seem to be too late each time. THE KING'S ANATOMIST, by Ron Blumenfeld

Everything a reader could want in a historical work based on a real historical person: fascinating characters, an era of change and conflict and ferment, historical persons of note, and a subtle, skillful mystery. Andreas Vesalius was the father of anatomy, and his life story as told by one of his oldest friends is fascinating. When his friend determines to visit Vesalius' grave on a far-off island in Greece, he must navigate not only across the continent and over the alps, but revisit the past at various stops. One night, he has a dream in which Vesalius tells him not to come, but he presses on. And stumbles into a shocking mystery. Beautifully researched, and the creative liberties the author takes really amp up the story. I'm looking forward to more from this talented author. Great read! A complicated plot with multiple ransoms, budding Nazi gangs, bombs, interrupted assignations, a lot of bodies, and a lot of double- and triple-crossings.
